Objectives

- To develop professional assessment skills based on theoretical perspectives
- To develop the student’s capacity for analysis and reflection on practice issues
- To develop the student's ability to actively contribute to the work of a social care agency
- To complete a 70 day practice placement in line with the Professional Capabilities Framework and SWE professional standards at first level placement standards

Learning outcomes

1. Students will analytically apply assessment, planning and review methods to social work practice in adult and child settings
2. Students will explore the concept of the reflective practitioner and demonstrate reflective writing about their practice
3. Students will be able to analytically apply a variety of theories to practice settings including the cycle of change, motivational interviewing, conflict resolution and solution focused approaches
4. Students will demonstrate an analytical approach to being a social work practitioner in line with the Professional Capabilities Framework and SWE Professional Standards
5. Students will develop an analytical understanding of and application in practice of professional values and ethics including the SWE guidance on conduct and ethics for students

There will only be two attempts at placement. - A placement second attempt will normally be via an extension to the placement agreed at and by the Practice Assessment Panel to determine student shortfall in key roles and units - Such an extension will normally be for a maximum of 30 days and will usually directly follow the placement. Only in exceptional circumstances to be determined by the Practice Assessment Panel and ratified by the exam board will students be allowed to retake the whole placement. Students will have a maximum of two attempts at the portfolio - The portfolio will be assessed by members of the Practice Assessment Panel There will normally only be two attempts at placement A placement second attempt will normally be via an extension to the placement agreed at the Practice Assessment Panel and School Exam Board to determine the student shortfall Such an extension will normally be for a maximum of 30 days and will usually directly follow placement Only in exceptional circumstances to be determined by the exam board will students be allowed to retake the whole placement Students will have a maximum of two attempts at the portfolio Students will have a maximum of two attempts at the essay. Students will complete a 3000 word summative assignment on their experiences of placement in relation to elements of the PCF and Social Work England. All elements of the module have to be passed to complete the module. There is no compensation between assessment elements. The portfolio will be marked by the personal tutor and Quality assured by the Practice Assessment Panel All elements of the module have to be passed to complete the module There is no compensation between assessment elements Students will be offered tutorial support prior to submission of the portfolio, however the submitted portfolio remains the responsibility of the student
